Work hard at work worth doing
I’m Jeremiah, an ambitious big thinker (and over thinker) with a focus on housing, societal productivity and scalable business systems. I believe in authenticity, disciplined thinking, and the value of clear perspective. I like to cut through the noise, uncover the real problems, and turn clarity into action.
Maybe it’s my ego wanting a corner of the internet. Maybe it’s because LinkedIn feels like a noisy mess. Or maybe I just needed a place to dump the thoughts I can’t stop thinking about. Either way, this site isn’t for you. It’s for me. A place to share the smallest sliver of how my brain works.
An overview of active work and current areas of focus. Some projects are in development, others are in motion, all with a goal of solving real problems through clear thinking and practical execution.

I started Marketing4 out of a desire to help other business owners grow. Almost every business now requires a digital element. There are so many platforms and software solutions, each of which claims to be the ‘industry standard.’
Sterling Maple Corp. is a progressive real estate development company focused on creating sustainable, thoughtfully designed communities. While specializing in purpose-built rentals, Sterling Maple also explores a range of residential and mixed-use developments that prioritize livability, environmental performance, and social responsibility.
Their buildings aim to exceed modern energy standards and offer a welcoming mix of affordable and accessible housing options. The company’s first major project is underway in Kingston, Ontario, near the Waaban Crossing. As a Board Director, Jeremiah Vanderlaan supports Sterling Maple’s mission to build communities where people can live comfortably and responsibly.
I got involved with Sterling Maple to help shape projects from the earliest stages. I focus on feasibility, productivity, and scalable execution. I look at problems from every angle, cut through the noise, and identify the actual core issue. My experience allows me to iterate through multiple ideas quickly, explore multiple paths, and work to determine, with reasonable certainty, which solutions should be pursued. My background in engineering and business helps me think practically, plan strategically, and move projects forward without losing sight of the bigger picture.
The Sterling at Cataraqui Commons is a planned purpose-built rental community located at 1081 Montreal Street in Kingston, Ontario. Just north of the Waaban Crossing and steps from the Cataraqui River, the project balances accessibility, sustainability, and livability in a rapidly growing part of the city.
With a mix of affordable, accessible, and market-rate rental units, the development is designed to serve a diverse population while advancing long-term housing goals for Kingston. The project will be built using the Kiwi Precast System, a modular construction method that reduces environmental impact, improves energy efficiency, and accelerates timelines without compromising quality.
As Sterling Maple Corp.’s first major development, The Sterling represents a commitment to building thoughtfully designed, community-focused housing that meets the needs of today while planning for tomorrow.
I joined the 1081 Montreal Street project after the initial concept was underway, but quickly played a key role in reshaping the building design. After visiting the site and recognizing the dramatic topography, I led a redesign that worked with the natural grade instead of against it. This approach significantly reduced site work requirements and saved a substantial amount on overall project costs. My experience with modular construction, energy-efficient systems, and practical design allowed us to move quickly while ensuring the building remained cost-effective, scalable, and sustainable.
I'm a husband to my amazing wife, Jessica. She's my closest companion and the person I trust most. Our life together reminds me to slow down, stay grounded, and focus on what truly matters. I'm always working to become a better man, not in pursuit of perfection but out of a belief that who I am matters more than what I accomplish.
A big part of that is learning to understand my own thoughts and emotions, and to question why I feel the way I do. I can’t control what happens around me, but I can control how I respond. That mindset has become a quiet discipline in my life. Whether it’s in business, relationships, or everyday challenges, I try to bring patience, clarity, and accountability to how I show up. It’s not always easy, but it’s the kind of man I want to be, for Jess and for myself.
Stoicism is a practical philosophy rooted in clarity, discipline, and the pursuit of virtue. It offers a structured way to respond to challenges, stay focused on what matters, and avoid being controlled by emotion or distraction. Rather than treating Stoicism as an abstract idea or aesthetic, the focus here is on how it applies to real decisions, work, and personal conduct. By separating what can be controlled from what cannot, Stoicism becomes a tool for navigating uncertainty, improving self-mastery, and staying grounded in purpose.
I’ve been exploring Stoicism as a daily practice and mental framework. Reading The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday helps me engage with it in a more consistent and grounded way. It helps me slow down, question my reactions, and stay focused on what needs doing. I don’t follow it perfectly, but I come back to it often. In work and life, it’s helped me recognize the difference between what’s essential and what’s noise, and to act with more clarity and intent.
A summary of the work, learning, and experiences that came before. These foundations continue to influence how challenges are approached and how decisions are made today.
BuildModular helps to simplify the project process for Owners and avoid unnecessary cost by determining the most effective Modular and Prefabricated Construction Methods for their project.
I started BuildModular Project Consultants to help developers navigate the complexities of modular construction. Too often, teams try to go modular after the design is already locked in, without realizing that modular needs to be part of the plan from day one. Through BuildModular, I worked with clients to evaluate the right building systems, levels of prefabrication, and modular partners based on their specific project goals. While I no longer pursue much work through BuildModular, I still offer consulting support on modular projects when it aligns with my other commitments and doesn’t create a conflict.
Nivee Cyber Security was a Cyber Security firm focusing on offensive strategies to protect their clients.
As COO of Nivee Cyber Security, I brought a business strategy lens to a space often dominated by technical complexity. I helped organizations see cybersecurity as a core business issue and guided them toward practical, proactive security practices. Education was a big part of the work, helping teams understand risk and resilience as part of overall strategy. I still apply this knowledge at Marketing4, helping small businesses build secure and reliable systems.

At Wilcox Door Services, I served as National Expansion and Branding Director, helping grow a well-established commercial door company into new markets across Canada. Wilcox specializes in maintaining and repairing loading docks, overhead doors, and critical facility equipment for industrial and commercial clients. My role combined strategy and execution, focusing on brand positioning, service model scalability, and building systems that supported long-term growth. Newton Group Ltd. is a vertically integrated General Contractor focusing on developing and constructing Building Systems and bringing efficient methods of construction to the industry with modular and prefabrication.
As Vice President of Business Development at Newton Group Ltd., I worked across departments to drive strategic growth, efficiency, and innovation. Newton is a vertically integrated General Contractor focused on modular and prefabricated construction methods, and my role involved leading Sales, Marketing, Estimating, and IT while also driving continuous improvement across the company. I focused on replacing outdated processes with smarter tools and systems that could capture better data and lead to better decisions. Although I’ve since moved on from the day-to-day role, I continue to support Newton Group as a strategic consultant through Kiwi Newton.

At Walters Group, I worked as a Structural Engineer and IT Coordinator, blending technical design with systems thinking. Beyond engineering, I helped implement SOPs and developed custom tools to improve efficiency across departments. I also explored emerging technologies like AR, robotics, and advanced scheduling software to keep the company forward-thinking and competitive.

The Engineering & Management Program is a prestigious 5-year program designed to provide engineering students with a deeper understanding of business, project management, and leadership skills needed to thrive in a corporate or entrepreneurial environment.
I’m driven to cut through noise, identify root problems, and bring structure to messy challenges, whether in business, construction, or life.
I value productivity, efficiency, and building things. Processes, tools, housing, or anything that works at scale without losing quality.
I care deeply about becoming a better man, partner, and thinker. It’s a daily discipline rooted in reflection and self-awareness.
I want to build tangible things that solve real problems (housing, businesses, tools) and make life better for others.
I care more about what’s true rather than what looks good. I question assumptions, challenge trends, and I’m not afraid to push back when something doesn’t make sense.
I care about giving real effort to things that matter. The goal isn’t comfort or ease, it’s to build something meaningful and to earn the satisfaction that comes with it.
It’s something you have to decide for yourself. But it won’t come from your current job title, your hobbies, cravings, or what social media tells you to want. Work worth doing isn’t driven by trends or validation. It’s rarely glamorous, and often doesn’t come with recognition. It’s the kind of work that needs to be done, even when no one’s watching.
It might look different for each person, but the thread is the same. It means serving something greater than your own comfort or ambition. The question isn’t just what you want to do, but what the world quietly requires. Finding purpose means paying attention to that need, and being willing to step into it with humility, discipline, and resolve.
